2022.01.25 10:39 Significant-Spell928 Overpayment of salary (holiday hours) from ex employer

A friend of mine used to work for one of the big supermarket retailers and left about 5 months ago. He has just received a letter through the door stating that he has overtaken his holidays hours vs what was accrued up until him leaving and must pay it back (around £500). The letter is from 'drydensfairfax solicitors' who are 'instructed on behalf of xxxxxx to manage overpayment of colleagues after their employment'.
Is this to be taken at face value or have drysdenfairfax bought the debt off the company? If so, should he just ignore the letter and not acknowledge receiving it? If he was to ask for proof of the overpayment would that be straightforward for them to get?
Now, the taking of the holiday hours is somewhat complicated. He was on holiday abroad last year when one of the people he was with tested positive for Covid, so they had to self-isolate over there, and then had to self-isolate when back due to being a close contact of one of the people who again tested positive on their day 2 PCR test. When he phoned his manager to tell him he was self isolating abroad and won't be back for a couple weeks, they never mentioned holidays or sick pay or anything. Eventually when he got back, he found he only had 5 holiday hours remaining for the year, as his manager had put all this time off through as his holiday hours, despite the company having a full pay self-isolation policy. He never questioned this as he didn't want the hassle and had intentions of leaving soon and was unaware of the holiday accrual terms when he left.
With this in mind, has he got a chance of contesting the overpayment or do you think he will just have to pay it back? If contesting it, should he speak to the ex-employer or the 'solicitors'?
He is unfortunately not a union member. Based in Scotland, fwiw.

2022.01.25 10:39 MarvTV7 A Call from the Desert - Preserve the Past

Perhaps you've been hiking before, or otherwise wanted to get away from the mundane for a while. Out in nature, peace can be found. This time turned out differently. You set off with your backpack and some other necessities. As you began travelling, you began to feel as though you needed to find something. You tried to tell yourself that well of course you had to find a good place to camp or some trails to walk. But you knew that wasn't what you were searching for. It felt more like you were being called, drawn somewhere.
After a couple of days, you felt like roads and highways had gotten you as far in the right direction as was possible, so you collected your gear from the vehicle you may have been driving to get out here and set off in a new direction, continuing to follow the pull of the call. "Come this way,' it seemed to implore you. Perhaps you never thought of yourself as psychic or a mystic of any kind, but you can't explain how this is being done. You simply know that you need to find what ever this is.
After maybe a couple more days of walking, you fully transition into desert sands. You are thankful you brought several water bottles with you, but the call seems to reassure you you don't have far to go. One more day, and on this morning, you woke early while it was still cool. You hadn't been walking for more than a few minutes before you spied what could only be ruins off in the distance ahead. Was this once a village, a trading post, a small city? You don't know, but this is the place you've been called to! The feeling of rightness is undeniable. You ran forward, wanting to get there before the sun came fully awake.
You arrived in less time than you thought you would. Slightly off to your left is a weirdly-shaped sand dune. You wonder if this was where a dwelling once stood. As you walk over, you notice something sticking out of the sand. It seems to be a narrow box or case.
As you sweep the sand away and retrieve the box, its lid flaps open underneath as you lift it, surprising you. Guess the item got flipped upside down in the blowing sands over the years. Out of the box fall a few cloth-wrapped shafts of something. Unwrapping one, you find that these are not just lengths of wood or bone, but flutes. Some now-dead musician or holy person's collection of instruments? They're not all the same. Some are longer and thinner than others. Some have fewer or greater numbers of holes.
Gently rewrapping the others and putting them back in the box so as not to lose them as the sand and wind continue their endless shifting dance, you suddenly feel like trying to play the last one still in your hands. You put the cloth wrapping in the box and bring the instrument to your lips. After a few false starts, you soon have an impulsive, random melody going. The call within your mind which seemed to disappear or at least go silent once you arrived here suddenly awakens again, changing. You feel your hands shift position to a new configuration of holes, and you draw in a breath to continue playing. What comes out is a haunting, sad melody. Something this ancient musician once played for his or her people? You sense relief and approval as a flawless segment of melody ends. You feel guided to put that flute away and retrieve... there. That one. You begin playing again.
After a few blissful, wonderful minutes of changing from flute to flute, the presence definitely felt now seems to have been released somewhat. It hovers near you rather than within you. You don't know how you can sense it. You can't see it, smell it, hear it, or touch it, but you know it... they? are there. All around you now though mostly in front of you among the dunes and fragments of ruins. They all seem to have emerged peacefully, as if called, released by your music. Yours and the ancient musician's. You feel like you can relax here, so you walk around to the front of the sand dune you found the box sticking out of and sit down, leaning back against it. It will shelter you from the rising sun for a while, and this is where the spirits are.
As you begin to relax, you imagine, or do you really hear? variations on the segments of melody you played earlier. Along with the music, the people seem to start chiming in. Not really words. They seem to know your language is different from what they once spoke, but impressions, feelings, fragments of memory. Time quickly loses relevance as you let the spirit thoughts flow through you, seeking to convey what they drew you here for.
Relief and welcome now that you have arrived. The sense that they have been waiting here for centuries. Sadness at being all but forgotten. Anguish that the story of their civilization came to an end. The wish that they could continue as more than just spirits and memory. The knowledge that they cannot, that they will soon fade, cross into the hereafter with their long vigil now at an end. Some of their individual personalities emerge. Loves, losses, joys, and fears. From gently learning about you and your modern world, they know that with the technology you and your people use, this place could be found and investigated by archaeologists, but they implore you desperately not to let that happen. The others won't understand what is sacred and valuable and should be left here, and what can be taken. Not like you can be made to understand in the short time that is left. A few already begin to go. Gratitude at hearing their old music one last time. They hope you will help preserve their art and leave their dead to rest. Before more fade, they try to convey things about the foods they liked. Others, the things and people they drew on stone and wood with colored paints. Others tell of the peacefulness of their people, crises they endured.
Most have now released their hold on this world and crossed into the hereafter. The few that remain explain the end of their people. Quick impressions. Not a lot of time or energy left. Famine or maybe a powerful illness, or maybe both. All things come to an end, they send. Some things should be preserved if possible. We know what we did was unusual, but we thank you most sincerely for following our summons. Please remember us. Take these things with you (including the flutes), and please leave those. The fate of our old place and our ways now rests with you.
With that, the last of the spirit presences fade, and you feel a sense of peace, well-being, and powerful compassion. You might rest here for a while longer, then perhaps do as the people requested and take some things away with you to be preserved and remembered. For now, perhaps some more of the music from those flutes while the melodies are still fresh in your mind. As the sun rises higher and the winds blow sand around you, you lift a flute from the box, unwrap it, and begin to play...

2022.01.25 10:39 ironman-4569 Pat Cummins

the guy is so underrated as a white ball bowler, he is so good in the middle overs and death and even could be used in powerplays and is a good player with bat too that overseas fast bowling slot there.. i think pat would be best for it coz he may get cheaper than rabada and csk like aussie's bowlers too
What you all think? i am a huge aussie supporter so pat would ofc 10/10 deal for me but he is really good in white ball, he would be Epic!
